Labor Insurance old-age benefits cannot be changed after they are paid by the Bureau of Labor Insurance (BLI). To protect the insured’s rights, BLI reiterates the importance of calculating and carefully considering one’s own benefits before filing an application. According to BLI, the labor insurance pension plan came into effect in 2009, and those who had accumulated years of insurance prior to the plan may choose to receive their labor insurance old-age benefits in a lump-sum or monthly. According to the Labor Insurance Act, old-age benefits cannot be changed after BLI pays them. In the interest of financial security after retirement, BLI encourages workers to take advantage of the BLI calculator service and find out the benefits and amounts for which they are eligible and then consider their options carefully before filing an application. In addition, applicants should ensure their rights are protected by double checking their information and benefit selection (monthly or lump-sum) before signing the form and sending it to BLI.
BLI provides three ways to help workers calculate the amounts of their old-age benefits:
- use the Citizen Digital Certificate or a combination of NHI card number and household registry number to access the e-Calculator on the BLI website (Home>Online application>e-Services>Personal application and enquiry > enquiry >Payment calculator >labor insurance old-age benefits calculator);
- bring one’s personal ID and visit the local BLI offices for a calculation at the counter; or
- for those who have difficulty visiting BLI or using the Internet, provide personal ID and make a written inquiry. BLI welcomes all workers to take advantage of the service!
