8. If an insured person suffers from an occupational injury or sickness and receives treatment abroad, how can he/she apply for reimbursement after returning to Taiwan? What are the payment standards?

  1. If an insured person who suffers from an occupational injury or sickness outside the jurisdiction area of Labor Insurance Act, and he/she needs to be treated at a local medical institution, the insured person may file a medical expenses reimbursement form to the Bureau of Labor Insurance for reimbursements within 6 months (5 years for those with special reasons) after the day emergency or outpatient treatment or when leaving the medical institution.
  2. The certifying documents, reimbursement deadline, reimbursement basis, procedures to follow, and scope of emergency care in relation to the aforementioned application for medical expense reimbursement shall be applicable mutatis mutandis to the Regulations for National Health Insurance Reimbursement of the Self-Advanced Medical Expenses.
