Don’t Ignore Your Right to Continued Coverage While on Unpaid Child Care Leave
The Bureau of Labor Insurance (hereinafter referred to as BLI) clarifies that the insured may continue to be covered by the Labor Insurance for ordinary accidents (excluding occupational accidents) and Employment Insurance while on unpaid child care leave. The continued coverage is up to the child reaching three years old but may not exceed two years. Related Labor and Employment Insurance benefits will continue during the period. The number of years insured may be accumulated, too.The value of the payment of Old-Age Benefit available after retirement increases as well. In other words, employees to go on unpaid child care leave should not ignore their right to continued coverage.
While the insured applies for continued coverage while on unpaid child care leave, the 70% of the premium originally afforded by the employer need not be paid (if the insurance is purchased by a public unit, however, it shall still be paid out of the annual budget for personnel available to each agency and school) and the 20% of the premium to be afforded by the insured, they may choose to pay while on unpaid child care leave or three years later.
In addition, to respond to energy conservation and carbon reduction and to cherish resources available on earth, the BLI has changed how the payment slip which is not paid through remittance will be delivered for the insurance premium payable by the insured for continued coverage while on unpaid child care leave ; now the payment slip for the insurance premium of the preceding two months will be sent out at the end of an odd month (example: The payment slip for insurance premium of January and February 2019 will be sent out at the end of March 2019). In addition, when the insurance premium for continued coverage while on unpaid child care leave is paid through remittance, the payment slip will no longer be sent and the monthly deduction of insurance premium remains.
