In response to the raising of the minimum wage to NT$19,047 per month, starting from April 1, 2013 the Bureau of Labor Insurance is raising the Monthly Insurance Salary from NT$18,780 to NT$19,200 for insured persons aged 16 or over working full-time for a specific employer.

The minimum wage is being increased to NT$19,047 per month as of April 1, 2013. Starting from this same date, pursuant to the stipulations of the Table of Grades of Insurance Salary, the Grade 2 monthly value of NT$19,200 will apply as the Labor (Employment) Insurance Monthly Insurance Salary (Insured Monthly Salary) for persons aged 16 or over who are working full-time for a specific employer. To ensure that the rights of Labor (Employment) Insurance insurees are protected, starting from April 1 that Bureau of Labor Insurance is raising the Labor (Employment) Insurance Monthly Insurance Salary applicable to persons aged 16 or over in full-time employment with a specific employer (excluding child workers, persons undergoing training at a vocational training institute, certain categories of worker paid by the hour, mentally or physically handicapped persons in sheltered employment, and persons belonging to a vocational association or fishermen’s association) from the current level of NT$18,780 per month to NT$19,200 per month. Insured units and insurees wishing to check the Labor Insurance premiums that they will be required to pay can do so using the “Premium” section of the “Labor Insurance” page on the Bureau of Labor Insurance website.

A notification of the adjustment of the Monthly Insurance Salary is being printed on the back of the March 2013 Labor Insurance Premium Payment Slips that will be sent out to insured units in April 2013. Insuree details adjusted to take account of the increase in the Monthly Insurance Salary will be printed on the List of Insurees Subject to Alterations This Month list attached to the April 2013 Labor Insurance Premium Payment Slips (to be sent out towards the end of May 2013). This information should be checked as soon as possible, and any inconsistencies reported prior to the end of the premium payment period.

In addition, starting from April 1, 2013, where an insured unit reports that coverage is being extended to an additional employee, or where an adjustment to the Monthly Insurance Salary has taken effect, if an employee aged 16 or over has a Monthly Insurance Salary of less than NT$19,200 per month (excluding certain categories of worker paid by the hour, mentally or physically handicapped persons in sheltered employment, and persons belonging to a vocational association or fishermen’s association), the Bureau of Labor Insurance will adjust the recognized Monthly Insurance Salary for the employee or employees in question to NT$19,200 as of the effective date of the extension of coverage to additional employee or the date of the coming into effect of the adjustment of the Monthly Insurance Salary; no additional notification will be given. In the case where an insured unit reports the extension of coverage to an additional employee classed as either a worker paid by the hour or a mentally or physically handicapped person in sheltered employment, the fact that the employee in question falls under the category of “certain categories of worker paid by the hour” or “mentally or physically handicapped person in sheltered employment” must be clearly specified, otherwise the Monthly Insurance Salary for the individual in question may not be less than NT$19,200.

If, in the future, any alterations are made to the Table of Grades of Insurance Salary pursuant to the adjustment of the minimum wage, notification will be given at that time; at such time, insured units will be asked to submit reports according to the stipulations of the revised Table, and to adjust the Monthly Insurance Salary of the insured persons attached to that insured unit accordingly.
