Now It's the Peak Season for Job Changes! Please Remember to Enroll Your New Employees in Labor Insurance and Employment Insurance on the First Day of Employment to Ensure Good Protection of Workers' Rights.

The period around the Chinese New Year holidays is the peak season for career change. The Bureau of Labor Insurance (BLI) reminds the business entities that, regardless of whether the new employee is working on a full-time or part-time basis, the employer should ensure that the employee is enrolled in labor insurance and employment insurance on the first day of his/her employment. This not only safeguards the basic rights and interests of the workers, but also helps disperse the operational risks of the employers and build up a safe and friendly working environment.

If the date of employment falls on a holiday due to the Chinese New Year, the BLI also offered three options for on-line application. Insured units using BLI's online service network may select the most convenient method at their own discretion. Firstly, the new employee may be enrolled through the BLI's "e-Service System" on his/her first day of employment. Secondly, the enrollment for new employees may be processed online within 10 days before the scheduled employment date of the employee. The third alternative is to apply for the enrollment online on the first working day after the holidays, on a retroactive basis. The insurance coverage shall take effect on the date of employment. How if the insured unit is not a user of the BLI's online services? Don't worry! The insured unit may complete and submit the enrollment application form to the BLI on the first working day after the holidays, along with the proof of employment of the new employee. The insurance coverage shall be made retroactively effective on the employment date.
