Maternity benefits under the National Pension Insurance Program were made available from July 1, 2011. A female insured person of the National Pension Insurance who has given birth or has had premature labor during the insured period; or who is pregnant during the effective period of the insurance and, due to the pregnancy, has a childbirth or premature labor within one year after her withdrawal from the insurance, the insured person shall be entitled to claim the maternity benefits, provided that she has not received any maternity benefit from other social insurance programs.
The benefits are paid based on the monthly insured amount. In other words, a lump sum maternity payment equal to the two-months monthly insured amount will be provided. Individuals who give birth, including in cases of premature birth, on or after January 1, 2026, will be eligible to receive birth allowances, which will be provided through government budget allocations to supplement the total amount to NT$100,000. In cases of more than one birth, the payment shall be increased proportionately.
