Please note that insurance applicants shall complete the procedure of participation in labor (employment) insurance and allocation of payment of labor pension for part-time students hired during summer vacation starting from the day that they assume office.

With summer approaching, the Bureau of Labor Insurance, Council of Labor Affairs reminds business units to complete the procedure of participation in labor and employment insurance for part-time students hired during summer vacation starting from the day that they assume office. Any unit hiring less than five people (including part-time students) that does not establish a labor insurance unit shall guarantee employment insurance for them; business units attributable to industries applicable to the Labor Standards Act shall complete the procedure of allocation of payment of labor pension for part-time students. Any breach of the completion of the procedure of participation in labor (employment) insurance and allocation of payment of labor pension for part-time students that is proved to be true after investigation by the Bureau of Labor Insurance shall be fined as required; if there is delay or failure in the completion of the procedure of participation in labor (employment) insurance causing losses to part-time student employees, the business unit shall be liable for compensation.

The Bureau of Labor Insurance has explained that students hired for part-time jobs during summer vacation face the same work environment as general laborers do; since they may not completely understand work flow or be well skilled in mechanical operation, they certainly will face more dangers. To promote employers to complete the procedure of participation in labor and employment insurance and allocation of payment of labor pension for part-time students, the Bureau of Labor Insurance will send out notifications along with payment bills in May 2013 (to be sent by June 2013) to remind insurance applicants that they shall complete the procedure of participation in labor (employment) insurance and allocation of payment of labor pension for part-time students hired during summer vacation starting from the day that they assume office, and examine insured daily pay and allocation of wages for payment of labor pension to protect the benefits of part-time student employees.

The Bureau of Labor Insurance reminds insurance applicants to fill in 2-in-1 application forms for participation in labor insurance and labor pension (if participation in employment insurance unit only, please fill in 2-in-1 application form for employment insurance and labor pension) when applying for participation in labor (employment) insurance and allocation of payment of labor pension for part-time students, and then send the forms to the Bureau of Labor Insurance. Regarding participation in labor (employment) insurance and allocation of payment of labor pension, please examine and fill in the form based on actual monthly wages, which the Bureau of Labor Insurance will properly classify according to “Classification of Labor Insurance Insured Wages” and the “Monthly Contribution Wages Grading Table of Labor Pension”. If employed part-time students are part time workers, please note “part-time” on application forms so that labor insurance premiums and contribution wages of labor pension will be accurately charged.
