Enroll in Labor Insurance on the First Day of Employment for Peace of Mind in the Peak Season for Career Moves

Many workers make a career change after the Chinese New Year holidays. The Bureau of Labor Insurance (BLI) would like to remind those who wish to change jobs that, when choosing their potential employers, they should not only consider salaries and benefits but also pay attention to whether their employers provide the Labor and Employment Insurances protection and whether they will enroll employees in the insurances beginning from the day of employment, in order to ensure peace of mind at work.

According to the BLI, business entities with  more than 5 employees are the compulsory insurance units of Labor Insurance. Also, any business entities that employ one worker are required to participate in the Employment Insurance. These entities must complete the insurance application form for their employees and submit it to the BLI for processing on the day of employment. Failure to do so will, after being confirmed by the BLI, result in fines in accordance with relevant regulations. Any losses thus caused to the employees shall also be borne by their employers.

The BLI especially reminds those who change careers to pay due attention to their rights related to Labor and Employment Insurances and familiarize themselves with the status of their insurance enrollment to protect their rights. What should I do to confirm whether the business entity which employs me has enrolled me in relevant insurances? It's easy. Just make your inquiry using Citizen Digital Certificate via the Internet. You may also do so with your Labor Protection Card at an auto-teller machine of the bank that issued the card or via the Internet, or make your inquiry to the BLI via telephone, in person, or in writing.
