To alleviate the burden of care for individuals permanently unable to work due to occupational accidents and to provide comprehensive basic living protection, insured persons suffering from occupational injuries or sicknesses may also be eligible for permanent disability care subsidies in addition to permanent disability benefits. In such cases, the Bureau of Labor Insurance (BLI) will proactively notify the insured person to apply.
The BLI explains that insured persons apply for disability benefits in accordance with the Labor Occupational Accident Insurance and Protection Act (referred to as the Occupational Accident Insurance Act). If the degree of disability is categorized as level 1 or level 2 as specified in the Appendix of the Labor Insurance Disability Benefit Payment Standards, and if the disability results in a lifelong inability to work and the insured requires specialized care in daily life, they may also apply for permanent disability care subsidies. Starting from the month of application, monthly subsidies of NT$13,083 will be provided (effective May 1, 2024, the amount was adjusted from NT$12,400 to NT$13,083) for a maximum period of 5 years.
To remind eligible insured persons to apply for the disability care subsidy, the BLI will include a blank copy of the 'Permanent Disability Care Subsidy Application Form and Subsidy Receipt' with the official document confirming the issuance of permanent disability benefits. Insured persons who receive this form can apply for the permanent disability care subsidy by simply filling it out and returning it to the BLI, without needing to attach additional documents.
The BLI would like to remind insured person that if they suffered from an occupational accident and became disabled before the Occupational Accident Insurance Act took effect, they may still apply for the permanent disability care subsidy if they claim a full permanent disability pension under the Act after it became effective.
However, if the insured person has claimed occupational accident benefits in accordance with the Labor Insurance Act before the Occupational Accident Insurance Act took effect, or chooses to claim occupational accident benefits in accordance with the Labor Insurance Act, applications shall be processed in accordance with the Occupational Accident Labor Protection Act.
