To safeguard their rights and interests, individuals insured through occupational unions or fishermen's associations should pay their labor insurance premium on time and keep the receipts properly

Different from employees whose labor insurance premiums are straightly deducted from their salary payment by the company, those insured through occupational unions or fishermen's associations, however, the insured persons have to pay the premium, on a monthly basis, to the occupational union or fishermen's association they belong to for consolidated payment to the Bureau of Labor Insurance (BLI), given the fact that there is no employment relationship between the worker and the union/association. When making the premium payment for labor insurance, the insured person should request the occupational union to issue a formal receipt, which should be carefully kept to protect the rights and interests of the insured person where necessary.

The BLI explains that, if the insured person fails to pay the labor insurance premium to the occupational union or fishermen's association on time, the union/association will report the case to the BLI and collect an overdue penalty which will be forwarded to the BLI on a consolidated basis. In accordance with the “List of Insured Persons with Overdue Premium Payments” submitted by the occupational units or fishermen's associations, the BLI will temporarily suspend the benefit payments to the listed insured persons and issue a time limited payment notice. If the insured person still fails to clear the payment within the deadline, he/she shall be transferred for administrative enforcement by the BLI. Therefore, if the insured person insured through occupational unions or fishermen's associations has not paid his/her premium and overdue penalty, he/she should make the payment as soon as possible, so as not to impair their labor insurance benefits in future.

The BLI expresses that it will not cancel the enrollment of any insured person because of overdue payments, since the enrollment or withdrawal of labor insurance are administered based on the applications filed. For the individuals insured through occupational unions or fishermen's associations, therefore, they should remember to contact the respective union/association for withdrawal from the labor insurance if they have changed job or are no longer engaged in the business, as to stop charging of the premium.

Furthermore, if occupational unions or fishermen's associations fail to make labor insurance premium payments punctually, this will also impair the insured person's rights in claiming relevant benefits. To safeguard their rights and interests, the workers are advised to pay the premium to the unions/associations on time, keep the receipt properly, participate in relevant activities and carefully observe the business and financial operations of the unions.
